✵may-may songuu✵ (2020)

Grandmother’s fabrics, imitation rice beads, paper maché, casters, foam, 3D animated video with audio (5’00” loop), soil, mycelium

may-may songuu employs costumes, sculptures, growing organic specimens, animation, sound and large-scale fabric curtains to form the visual language of a creation mythology concerning appetite, greed and consumption. The telling of this story resists conventional language and familiar cultural reference points. Rather, the multi-layered narrative, interwoven with personal memories and relationships, occupies a mythical space between cultures, where the borders separating animals, vegetables, minerals and even entire worlds, begin to blur.
